2023 End of Year Round Up

Since May 1st there have been 35 weeks, 245 days.
Here’s what we’ve done so far:

From the Operations Committee

Main Services:

  • We delivered over 2200 meals to over 60 different people

  • Temporary Housing (separately) for 8 people, including their 6 dogs

  • Housing: 10 people and their pets are now permanently housed!

  • Supplies for over 60 individuals and families including tents, clothes, blankets, food, shoes, hygiene, and other necessary supplies

  • Doctor Visits or in the field treatment for 12 people and Vet Visits for 3 pets

Other Services:

  • Assistance applying for and obtaining ID, social security cards, moving, accessing food banks, legal assistance, showers, and transportation

From the Board

  • Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation

  • Established our 3 levels of Assistance for our clients

    • Development of low-cost affordable housing 

    • Short-term shelter

    • Food Insecurity

  • Launched our website! CANUP.org and email info@canup.org

  • Issued 6 newsletters and several “call to action” emails

  • Issued our Vision, Mission, and Core Values

  • Held 7 monthly group meetings, with guest speakers, exercises, and training

  • Have a mailing list of over 150 interested individuals

  • Named Team Lead for Greene County by the Appalachian Regional Coalition on Homelessness (ARCH) and will be responsible for the 2024 Point in Time (PIT) count of the unhoused

  • Toured:

    • Community Supported Shelters – Eugene, OR

    • Johnson City Downtown Day Center — Johnson City, TN

    • The Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS) — Morristown, TN

    • Salvation Army Short-term Shelter — Johnson City, TN

    • Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless – Walla Walla, WA

  • Met with:

    • Amanda Moorhouse – Johnson City Downtown Day Center

    • Eastern 8 Community Development Corporation

    • ETSU Addiction Science Center

    • Greene County Anti-Drug Coalition

    • Safe Harbors

    • Stephanie Bullock – TN Mental Health Substance Abuse Services

    • TEMA of Greene County

    • Johnson City Drug Addiction Center

    • Greeneville Housing Authority

  • Participated in Field of Dreams Fighting Hunger Event (July)

    • Gave out over 75 backpacks to children and a ticket to the Fly Boys baseball game

  • Participated in a clothing drive with Heritage Community Bank and the family resource centers for Greeneville and Greene County Schools (December)

  • Was recipient of a Cookie Walk Fundraiser from Notre Dame Catholic Church

  • Was mentioned in and / or the subject of 11 Greeneville Sun articles
